FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY
When I was first elected, Vigo County had an approximately $17 Million operating balance and by 2024 that operating balance doubled to $34 Million. The operating balance is what is left after all expenses are paid for during the year.
That balance has risen due to fiscal responsibility and conservative spending. Vigo County has put itself in a unique financial position by having the ability to help our economic development through various partnerships.
EDUCATION
My official stance on VCSC school consolidation is one that supports plan 6.2, as recommended after months of research by the highly qualified Oversight Committee. I’m in my 8th year on the County Council and I have seen numerous businesses, corporations, families and individuals either not locate to Vigo County or that have left due to the condition of our school facilities. There is no doubt that great school facilities are an economic boost and driver to any community. Why can’t that be Vigo County? Unfortunately the school project has become personal and political. The condition of several of the school buildings are irreparable and no one single administration is to blame for this. The cost of current upkeep is unattainable and the time to act is now. Education, school facilities and opportunities are the backbones of a thriving economy!

SEEKING RE-ELECTION
I am proud of the progress that has been made over the last 8 years in Vigo County while I have served on the council and we are on the cusp of achieving even more economic opportunities. I would love to be a part of furthering the positive progress while continuing our financial stability.
There is a huge learning curve in understanding our fiscal body in county government and I think experience in what is looming on the horizon is very important.

My name is David Thompson, your current District 1 Vigo County Councilman, and I am seeking re-election.
I am a lifelong resident of Vigo County and a graduate of Terre Haute North Vigo High School, where I graduated in 1991. I then attended Indiana State University, majoring in criminology and graduating in 1995. That same year, I began my career with the Terre Haute Police Department, where | am still proudly employed today. This year marks 31 years of service to the community.
1995 was also a very important year in my personal life. My wife, Dr. Micah Thompson, and I were married that year, and we celebrated our 31st wedding anniversary this year. Micah is a local family physician, and together we have three daughters. They are the reason I first decided to run for Vigo County Council, and they continue to be the motivation behind my commitment to serving our community.
I am running for re-election because I believe in the future of Vigo County and want to help build a community that provides opportunities for future generations.
I am currently in my eighth year serving on the Vigo County Council. During my time on the Council, I have had the privilege of serving as Chair of the Budget Committee, President of the Council, and in numerous other leadership roles. Throughout my career, I have also served on various community boards and worked to give back to the community I have called home my entire life.
I am proud of my record of service, proud of Vigo County, and honored to have the opportunity to continue serving the people of District 1.
